× Celebrate the Martin Luther King holiday on Monday, January 21, with a day of theatre activities hosted by Education at The Rep! Register your K - 6th grade student for a day of creative and collaborative games and exercises, all centered around the theme of “unity.” Students will be grouped by age and work closely with The Rep’s professional faculty to create visual and performance art inspired by the life and mission of Dr. King. At 4:00 p.m. pick up, students will informally share what they’ve learned with family in The Rep’s Annex Black Box. Remember to pack a lunch for the meal break.

× Make some noise in this course that builds upon the foundation of tap dance technique. With warm ups and drills focusing on tap dance vocabulary, clarity of sound, rhythmic variety, aesthetically quality, and the beginnings of improvisation, students will apply their skills to rhythm and show tap choreography. This class is not for beginners. Students must have a basic tap dance vocabulary including shuffles, flaps, riffles, paradiddles, drawbacks, etc. Tap shoes required.

× The body is the actor’s most essential tool. Through activities and exercises centered on awareness, imagination, physical control, and emotional connection, we will explore ways to create dynamic characters using the stage as a canvas and movement as the paint. This class is inspired by the teachings of world-renowned theatre artists Jacques LeCoq and Jerzy Grotowski, including mask and clown techniques as well as commedia dell’arte. Actors will leave feeling more grounded with new tools to fully embody a character, confidently make big and bold choices, and command the space. This course is designed for all levels of actors and all levels of movement ability.

× Discover how visual art can inspire performance art in an imaginative week combining theatre activities, design projects, music, and movement. Students will visit nearby galleries and art installations, using these visuals as a catalyst to create one-of-a-kind theatrical works. Learn more about theatre artists and designers by taking an exclusive behind-the-scenes tour of The Rep. Throughout the week, students will develop and rehearse an original script to informally share with family and friends in the Annex Black Box.
